Home Radon Remediation:

1. Radon Testing

The first step is to test the radon levels in your home. This can be done by purchasing a home radon test at your local hardware or home improvement store or online. You can also hire a radon testing professional such as Drycrete Waterproofing to test the levels in your home.

The EPA recommends homes with a radon level of 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter) or more have their radon remediated immediately. There is no known safe level of exposure to radon, so the EPA also recommends that Americans consider fixing their home for radon levels between 2 pCi/L and 4 pCi/L.

2. Identify Where Radon is Entering the Home

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep into homes through cracks in the foundation or other openings. There are two main ways that radon can enter homes:

Soil: Radon gas is naturally present in soil and rock. The pressure differences between the interior of your home and the soil outside can create a vacuum, called the “stack effect”, causing radon gas to be sucked in through cracks and holes in your foundation.
Water: Radon can also be found in groundwater. If your home has a well, radon gas can seep into your home through the pipes that bring water into your home.

3. Mitigate the Radon

There are several different types of radon mitigation systems that can be used to reduce radon levels in homes. The type of system that is best for your home will depend on the level of radon and where it’s coming from, the age of your home, and the foundation type.

I couldn’t be more satisfied with Drycrete! In March of 2020, 2 days before the world stopped, Drycrete came to my house to fix the water problem that I have had in my home for the last 20 years! Every large storm, I would have water in my basement, leaving me in knee high boots and wet vacs cleaning up the disaster , replacing carpets and repairing walls. After the most recent storm, I reached out to make sure that my pump was still good because I smelled an odor that I couldn’t identify. They sent someone right out, checked the entire system and put me on an annual check from now on! I could not be more pleased with DRYCRETE . Instead of being terrified of rainstorms, I am confident that my house will be safe and dry.

They did an entire basement dig-out for my customers - we gained 18" of ceiling height and it transformed the space. For such a large, seemingly complex job, they made it look easy (even though I KNOW it was not!) and with so few hiccups. I would use them again in a heartbeat.
